It began as a Sunday School ministry in Bro. John Khng’s 4-room HDB flat at Marsiling Drive, Woodlands, in 1979. Marsiling is situated in the far north of Singapore near the Causeway to Malaysia. Bro. Khng, his wife Bethany, and a few faithful brethren reached out to the neighbourhood with the Gospel. The group grew and established Faith Independent Baptist Church in 1983.
From 1984 to 1987, Bro. Khng and his family trained at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, USA, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Bible. Upon returning, he was elected pastor of Faith Independent Baptist Church.
In July 1990, Pastor Khng and his family returned to Bob Jones University for further studies, completing a Master in Pastoral Studies in 1992. The following year, they planted Mount Calvary Baptist Church (MCBC), which was officially registered in July 1994. By God’s grace, Pastor Khng continues to serve faithfully as its pastor.

Get to know our Pastor
Pastor Khng was saved and became a Christian at the age of sixteen years old. Together with a few brothers from church, they started a Bible Study Group that met regularly after classes in the Singapore Polytechnic from 1971 to 1974.

A Life of Faithful Service
He started to preach at the age of eighteen years old when he travelled alone by train to Kuala Lumpur to conduct the Daily Vacation Bible School and to Penang to be the thematic speaker for a church camp in Tanjong Bungah. Together with Sis Bethany (Beth), they started the Students’ Club for secondary students in Singapore. The group met for youth activities every Saturday at the Jesus Saves Missions from 1975 to 1978.

Serving the Church and Community
In 1976, he was accepted as a Bible student by Bob Jones University (BJU) but then he was drafted to serve in the army, under the National Service scheme, so he had his Bible training delayed for eight years. It was in 1984 that he started his Bible training at BJU. God’s timing is always good and perfect. He was ordained to serve in the Gospel Ministry in 1987 at University Baptist Church, Clemson, South Carolina, USA.

It takes every Christian in the church to be spiritually growing, sincerely worshiping God and actively being a disciple of Christ and passionately winning souls and prayerfully disciple the saved in the Power of the Holy Spirit that we can bring glory to God to the edification of the Body of Christ.
Family
Faith, Family and Ministry
Pastor John and his wife, Bethany Khng have three children, Nathaniel, Joshua and Anna Joy. They have three grandchildren, Stacie Joy, Jed Borden and Kayla Grace. Their family is closely knit and constantly encourage one another to serve the Lord faithfully.
